Why this course?
India is presently at a very great demographic advantage with 67.3% of its population between 15-59 years of age.
In absolute numbers, India with 1.04 billion working age persons, will constitute the largest work-force in the world. This factor is is seen as India’s comparative advantage vis a vis several other industrialized countries.
However, we must first convert our work force numbers into the demographic dividend which has the capacity to take full advantage of the economic and professional opportunities which will keep emerging in the future. Only then can we achieve our $7 trillion GDP target by 2030.
For that we need to have knowledge regarding many facts and factors.
First of all, we must know what is the present state of our human capital and demographic dividend.
Are they in a position to acquire the right high end skills and capitalize on the economic and professional opportunities which are available or will emerge over the next 3 decades?
If not, why not, and what are the causes?
How do we address the causes?
This first of its kind, unique, interdisciplinary course, “Public Nutrition, Human Capital and Demographic Dividend” will teach this and much more.
It brings together public health/public nutrition, biology, education, gender, within a single prism, and provides holistic knowledge and understanding of human capital development and how we can strengthen our demographic dividend. The Course will be taught by eminent experts from the interdisciplinary sectors
