Certificate Course on Public Nutrition, Public Health and Public Policy

Announcing a Unique Inter-disciplinary 2 Credit Course “Public Nutrition, Human Capital and Demographic Dividend”

Auro Centre for Public Nutrition, Public Health and Public Policy, Bangalore, a vertical of Sri Aurobindo Society, in collaboration with The University of Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences & Technology (TDU) is launching a unique interdisciplinary 2 credit on-line course, “Public Nutrition, Human Capital and Demographic Dividend”, open to graduate students and
professionals, particularly those seeking careers in the civil service, international agencies, policy think tanks, NGOs, and in the development sector.

Why this course?
India is presently at a very great demographic advantage with 67.3% of its population between 15-59 years of age. While many countries in the world are ageing, especially the industrialized countries, India will continue to have this demographic advantage for at least another three decades. In absolute numbers, India with 1.04 billion working age persons, will constitute the largest work-force in the world.
This factor is emphasized at most social and economic for  and is seen as India’s comparative advantage vis a vis several other industrialized countries. However, we must first convert our work force numbers into the demographic dividend which has the capacity to take full advantage of the economic and professional opportunities which will keep emerging in the future. Only then can we achieve our $7 trillion GDP target by 2030. For that we need to have knowledge regarding many facts and factors.

First of all, we must know what is the present state of our human capital and demographic dividend. Are they in a position to acquire the right high end skills and capitalize on the economic and professional opportunities which are available or will emerge over the next 3 decades? If not, why not, and what are the causes? Is it mere poverty, or is it related to lack of
cognitive capacity or poor health? What are the gender dimensions? How do we address the causes? What behaviour changes must happen at family level? What must public institutions and government do? What must academia do, to
enable our demographic numbers to acquire the skills which translate to dividend?

This first of its kind, unique, interdisciplinary course, “Public Nutrition, Human Capital and Demographic Dividend” will teach this and much more. It brings together public health/public nutrition, biology, education, gender, within a single prism, and provides a holistic perspective on human capital development and how we can strengthen our demographic dividend.
The Course will be taught by eminent experts from the interdisciplinary sectors. This evidence-based knowledge will bring great distinction and value added to CVs and skills of students and professionals for employment opportunities in any sector, particularly the development sector, government, non-government, international and corporate, both at the policy pushing and policy making side, or as development consultants in think tanks.

The Course will be launched on January 20, 2024
